Yemen gov’t forces advance in Taiz as Houthis claim attack on Saudi Arabia

Yemen's Ansar Allah Houthis say they have fired dozens of drones and ballistic missiles at military targets in Saudi Arabia, including Khamis Mushait and the King Khalid Air Base. They say the attacks are in retaliation for more than 300 Saudi air strikes inside Yemen over the past five days. Riyadh is supporting the internationally recognised government, which is battling Houthi territorial gains. Video released by the Saudi-backed Yemeni army appears to show the Air Force targeting Houthi positions and vehicles in Taiz. The Houthis control most of the north and west, including the capital Sanaa, while the government and allied forces control much of the south and east. Fighting is concentrated in Taiz, Mocha and Marib. The Houthis have vowed to continue their attacks until Saudi Arabia ceases its aerial bombardment. Since the conflict escalated, Saudi Arabia and its allies have carried out more than 250,000 air strikes, yet the Houthis have continued expanding southwards to Bab al-Mandab and Mocha by mastering stealth warfare. On the humanitarian front, the International Organization for Migration says nearly 100,000 civilians have been displaced from western Taiz, al-Bayda, Marib and al-Jawf. The latest fighting could lead to another humanitarian catastrophe, with Yemen only recently emerging from what was described as the world's worst humanitarian crisis, including widespread malnutrition and hospitals struggling to function.
