Wildfires are raging across parts of the Northwest United States, destroying entire neighbourhoods and forcing tens of thousands from their homes. But it isn't just local communities under threat, environmental advocates say the region's diverse wildlife is also at risk. The World Organisation for Animal Health says wildfires are becoming an increasingly serious animal health emergency, leaving wildlife with burns, smoke inhalation, dehydration and other life-threatening injuries, while destroying the habitat they depend on for food and shelter. This year, Oregon shattered its previous record for a single wildfire season, with 2 million acres burned. Al Jazeera's Eva McKend reports from Washington.
