UN resolutions on Palestine face reality of settlement expansion and occupation

The United Nations has passed numerous resolutions concerning Palestine, but Palestinians continue to face settlement expansion, displacement and the dismantling of UN infrastructure. The report examines Israeli forces' closure and demolition of UN facilities, including the Kalandia Training Center and UNRWA headquarters in East Jerusalem. It also looks at the UN's historic role in the 1947 partition plan and the 1993 Oslo Accords. Settlement expansion in the occupied West Bank has grown from around 30,000 settlers in 1980 to nearly 800,000. The report examines the E1 settlement project and concerns that it could bisect the West Bank and affect prospects for a future Palestinian state. The International Court of Justice has ruled the occupation unlawful, while the UN General Assembly has passed resolutions calling for withdrawal. But there is no direct enforcement mechanism for those rulings. For Palestinians such as Bedouin Hasan Jahaleen, continued displacement has raised questions over whether international institutions can protect them.
