Nepal rescues two hydropower workers alive as hopes fade for others

Search crews in Nepal have rescued two workers from a hydropower plant on the Trishuli River, nine days after they were trapped by a devastating flash flood. The government believes hundreds of workers may have survived the disaster inside hydroelectric projects along the river, but Kabir Maharjan and Sanjay Sah are the first survivors found so far. Maharjan was carried out on the backs of rescue workers and appeared remarkably well. Sah, less mobile, was carried out on a stretcher. Energised by the find, rescue teams pushed on, feeding compressed air into the tunnel network in the hope of reaching others still trapped.
