Makeshift Gaza clinic helps war-wounded recover despite prosthetic shortages

Thousands of Palestinians in Gaza have suffered life-changing injuries during the war, with children among those most affected. The World Health Organisation says one in four people injured in Gaza since October 2023 has sustained a life-changing injury, with children accounting for up to a quarter of those cases, or around 10,000 children. With medical supplies, prosthetic materials and specialist care in short supply, only about 500 people have received permanent prosthetics. In Khan Younis, a makeshift tent clinic is repairing damaged prostheses and providing temporary support to Palestinians who have struggled to find treatment elsewhere. Prosthetics technician Mohammed al-Khaldi says they repair damaged devices so patients can continue living in difficult conditions inside displacement camps. For many patients, including children, rehabilitation is about more than restoring mobility; it offers hope and a way to rebuild their lives after devastating injuries.
