Israeli settler faced no threat when Awdah Hathaleen was shot dead, Al-Haq finds

A new investigation by Palestinian rights group Al-Haq has reconstructed the killing of Awdah Hathaleen, shot dead by an Israeli settler in Masafer Yatta a year ago. Analysing more than sixty videos, photographs and testimonies alongside geospatial and 3D data, investigators concluded that settler Yinon Levi fired the fatal shot while under no threat. Levi, who denied firing the weapon, was briefly placed under house arrest and continues to run an expanding illegal settlement outpost. Al-Haq says the case reflects a pattern of state-backed violence used to displace Palestinians from their land. Al Jazeera’s Nida Ibrahim reports from the occupied West Bank.
