Israeli assault on Hebron displaces thousands as West Bank restrictions tighten

Israeli forces have intensified military operations across the occupied West Bank, forcibly displacing more than 2,000 Palestinians in Hebron, nearly half of them children. The governor says 400 families have been expelled from their homes following a shooting on Friday that killed two Israeli soldiers. On the third day of the assault, Israeli forces have demolished homes and businesses, while displaced families seek shelter with relatives and friends. Near Jenin, residents of an entire Palestinian village have been ordered to leave permanently, threatening their homes, farmland and livelihoods. Human rights organisations warn that the forced displacement of Palestinian communities is systematic and are calling for international intervention. Israel has also imposed additional movement restrictions, including a ban on Palestinians entering the Jordan Valley, citing security preparations ahead of Tuesday's Israeli elections. Al Jazeera's Nour Odeh reports from Ramallah. Jasper Nathaniel is an independent journalist and writer of the Infinite Jaz newsletter on substack. He says the restrictions are reshaping life across the territory.
