Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov have reaffirmed their strategic partnership following talks in Tehran on Monday, pledging to strengthen economic, trade and technological cooperation. At a joint news conference, both ministers condemned US and Israeli military actions against Iran, blaming them for instability in the Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz. Araghchi said the talks covered Iran-US negotiations, Ukraine and regional conflicts, stressing that military action cannot resolve political disputes and that diplomacy remains the only viable path forward. Lavrov pledged that Russia would maintain its cooperation with Iran despite international pressure, including efforts to restore operations at a nuclear facility. He also called for a return to pre-crisis conditions in the Strait of Hormuz and guarantees against renewed attacks on Iran. The ministers discussed a proposed collective security framework involving Iran and Gulf Arab states, with Araghchi criticising US military bases and supporting security arrangements led by countries in the region. Both accused Western governments of pursuing policies that fuel conflicts, while reaffirming cooperation through BRICS and other international organisations. They also addressed developments in Gaza, Lebanon, Yemen and the Caucasus, as well as Russia's war in Ukraine.
