Intense fighting in Yemen : Reports of several Houthi attacks across Taiz

Heavy fighting has erupted between Yemen’s internationally recognised government and Ansarullah Houthi fighters in Taiz, in the country’s southwest. The fighting began early on Thursday morning, with the Houthis reportedly launching attacks across several areas, including al-Tuwair, al-Kadha and Maqbana. Government forces have sent reinforcements after the Houthis reportedly advanced on some positions. Sources told Al Jazeera the Houthis are seeking to block the Taiz-Mokha road, potentially cutting off the city from the coast. Al Jazeera’s Yousef Mawry reports live from Yemen’s capital, Sanaa.
