In Buenos Aires, Argentina, tango is being used as a therapeutic tool for people living with Parkinson’s disease. The programme combines dance and movement exercises to help patients work on balance, walking and other motor skills, while also providing emotional and social support. Patient Jorge Alberto Alvarez describes how tango helps him manage symptoms including tremors and rigidity. At Ramos Mejia Hospital, neurologist Dr Tomoko Arakaki discusses research into how dance and movement may support the brain’s ability to adapt and develop new neural pathways. Instructor Laura Segade guides participants through exercises designed to improve movement and confidence. For new student Julio, the experience becomes an emotional breakthrough, highlighting how movement and music can offer another way of living with Parkinson’s.
