Gaza's children return to school after nearly three years of war

Tens of thousands of children in Gaza are returning to the classroom for the start of a new school year, many for the first time in nearly three years. School bags are back on their shoulders as students walk streets still marked by the destruction of war to reach makeshift learning spaces set up after Israeli attacks destroyed or damaged most school buildings. With few functioning classrooms left, many children are now learning in tents, without proper school supplies or furniture. For many, this marks their first return to a structured routine in almost three years, after repeated displacement and lost access to regular schooling.
