The French government says it is implementing an emergency plan to improve conditions in the education system after weeks of high school protests that have spread across France and now include universities. Al Jazeera’s Natacha Butler saw police charge towards protesters, who had built barricades with bins and fences, and break them up, with some fires and smoke in the street. The prime minister wants to end the unrest, promising an emergency plan to address some of the students’ concerns, with more teachers a priority. But some young people who gathered at Bastille Square said they no longer trust the government. Student Mohamed Bensouna called it a revolution, saying they love France but not the government. Finding more funds for education will be difficult as the country’s debt crisis grows. Al Jazeera’s Natacha Butler reports from Paris.
