Flash flood in the Himalayas: Thousands still missing a week after the disaster
Al Jazeera EnglishA week on from a devastating flash flood in the Himalayas, nearly 4,500 people are still missing after a torrent of ice, rock and mud swept through parts of Nepal and China’s autonomous Tibet region, leaving a trail of destruction. The disaster left behind at least 2.2 million tonnes of debris, according to the United Nations. International rescue teams are continuing their search for at least 600 hydropower plant workers trapped in tunnels in Nepal. The death toll stands at more than 1,100 as rescue and recovery efforts continue across the affected areas.
