Fighting displaces thousands in Sudan: RSF expands control near Ethiopian border

Thousands of people have arrived in Damazin in Sudan’s Blue Nile region after the Rapid Support Forces and their allies took control of the Kurmuk and Geissan localities. The United Nations says more than 23,000 people have been displaced from the two localities since August 11. The humanitarian situation is worsening as the rainy season makes conditions at displacement sites increasingly difficult. Many families are struggling without adequate shelter, food or drinking water. Heavy rain has turned the clay-rich ground into mud, making it difficult for displaced people to move and humanitarian workers to provide shelter and sanitation. As fighting continues in southeastern Blue Nile, more people are arriving in Damazin in need of shelter, food, water, healthcare and other basic services. Al Jazeera’s Almigdad Alruhaid reports.
