Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed says Ethiopia will work to secure access to the sea. Tensions between landlocked Ethiopia and Eritrea, which lies on the Red Sea, have been escalating due to fighting in the region. Last week, Ethiopia cut diplomatic ties with its neighbour. Eritrea has expressed fears Ethiopia could seek access to its port of Assab by force. But Abiy says Ethiopia intends to pursue access peacefully.
