Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney says he has suspended trade negotiations with the United States after talks between the two countries collapsed, clearing the way for new 50 per cent US tariffs on Canadian goods. Carney says Canada will match the levies "dollar for dollar." The new 50 per cent tariff targets nearly $20 billion worth of Canadian exports, around 5 per cent of everything Canada sells to the US, hitting products including alcohol, furniture, clothing and sporting goods. Oil and natural gas, heavily used by American industry, are exempt.
