Bogota's ‘Care Blocks’ offer free support to unpaid caregivers

Bogota's ‘Care Blocks’ (Manzanas del Cuidado) initiative provides free services to support unpaid caregivers, the majority of whom are women. The centres offer services including exercise, education and laundry, helping caregivers free up time while improving their quality of life and mental health. Launched under former mayor Claudia Lopez, the programme has expanded to 27 centres and is now being used as a model for similar initiatives elsewhere in Latin America and the United States. Caregivers Luz Dary Ramirez and Marilu Ramirez Sierra describe how the services have changed their daily lives.
