Argentina police clash with protesters over controversial property reform bill

In Argentina, police have clashed with protesters opposing a controversial property reform bill, with security forces using water cannons and tear gas on demonstrators in Buenos Aires. The legislation aims to strengthen private property rights, but a provision easing restrictions on foreign purchases of rural land was removed after widespread backlash. Indigenous groups warn the reforms could weaken protections for ancestral lands. Thousands gathered outside Congress as the Senate debated the bill, chanting "Argentina is not for sale." The government says the law is needed to attract foreign investment, while critics argue it could put Argentina's land and natural resources at risk. Existing rules allow foreigners to own around 15 percent of Argentina's territory, and opponents say that limit should not be expanded.
