Markets are standing by for US employment data that could break the recent period of consolidation. The focus centres on ADP’s private payroll figures (Wednesday), jobless claims and productivity (Thursday), and non-farm payrolls (Friday). The latter is expected to show that the US economy added 62,000 jobs in April, down from 178,000 in March, with wage growth picking up. These upcoming releases could provide the catalyst for moves across FX and indices, against a backdrop of falling oil prices as optimism builds over a US-Iran peace deal. That said, geopolitical uncertainty remains, and is likely to continue to shape the broader macroeconomic picture in the near term.
