Midweek trading ideas: Nasdaq hits fresh high despite rising oil prices

Wednesday, 3 June 2026: ADP employment figures out today at 1.15pm (UK time) and the official US jobs report on Friday are expected to provide the clearest indication yet of whether labour market momentum is slowing ahead of the Federal Reserve’s interest rate decision on 17 June. Non-farm payroll growth is expected to have slowed to 85,000 in May, with unemployment remaining at 4.3% and wage growth moderating slightly. A weak payrolls print could strengthen the case for a rate cut later this year, while a stronger-than-expected reading may reinforce the ‘higher for longer’ narrative. In the meantime, the dollar continues to recover, while major indices such as the S&P 500 and Nasdaq 100 are at record highs despite elevated oil prices and ongoing geopolitical uncertainty.
