Ongoing fighting in Yemen has led to the displacement of nearly 16,000 people in the past week, according to the International Organization for Migration (IOM). This brings the total number of displaced individuals since conflict escalated on the western coast in June to over 145,000 people, comprising approximately 24,218 households across eight governorates. The increase represents a 12 percent rise in displacement within a single week.
Ta'iz Governorate is the most affected, hosting the largest number of displaced people with 81,444 individuals, an increase of nearly 8,000 from the previous week. Lahj Governorate hosts 34,860 displaced people, followed by Aden with 12,456. Aden recorded a significant surge, with its displaced population rising by nearly 40 percent in one week, an increase of 3,510 people. Displacement also nearly doubled in Hadramawt and rose by two-thirds in Abyan during the same period.
IOM teams are collaborating with local authorities and humanitarian partners to provide emergency shelter, essential household items, cash assistance, clean water, sanitation, and protection services to newly displaced families. The organization's Displacement Tracking Matrix monitors population movements to direct aid effectively. IOM is calling for the protection of civilians and humanitarian workers, and for unimpeded access to deliver aid.
