Western Alliance Bank is actively expanding its specialized mortgage services, focusing on warehouse lending, MSR financing, and note finance to support clients across the mortgage ecosystem. Mark Short, National Sales Manager of Mortgage Warehouse Lending, and Chris Martin, Director of Treasury Management Sales, discussed the bank's strategy in a conversation with HousingWire.
Short highlighted that Western Alliance has been providing warehouse financing for 17 years and MSR financing for 13-14 years. The bank also offers note finance through a dedicated group. The acquisition of AmeriHome has further bolstered its capabilities, including whole-loan purchasing and dedicated treasury management, setting it apart from many other banks.
Martin emphasized the bank's commitment to listening to clients and offering flexible financing structures to help them achieve their goals and increase originations, particularly in the current challenging rate environment. Western Alliance is also extending its warehouse lending services to smaller independent mortgage banks and sees loan syndication as a growth opportunity amid industry consolidation.
Despite other banks exiting the mortgage space, Western Alliance remains committed, viewing it as a core area of focus. Short noted the bank's significant growth, approaching $100 billion in assets from $40-45 billion six years ago, and stressed the importance of maintaining its culture while developing future mortgage leaders by educating younger professionals and encouraging in-office collaboration.
Looking ahead, Martin identified embedded payment technology as a key opportunity, with the bank focused on integrating its payment rails to create a frictionless experience and aiming to become a major remittance provider in the mortgage sector. Short concluded by noting the bank's agile leadership structure allows for quick adaptation to industry changes.
