Eli Lilly's oral weight-loss pill Foundayo has received a recommendation for approval from the European Medicines Agency's committee, positioning it as the second oral obesity drug to gain backing in the region after Novo Nordisk's Wegovy. The European Commission will now review the recommendation, potentially leading to Foundayo's launch in Europe. The drug, which contains orforglipron, has already been launched in the US and UK, generating $98 million in sales in the second quarter. Studies showed patients treated with Foundayo lost up to 11% of their body weight. Unlike Novo Nordisk's Wegovy, Foundayo can be taken at any time of day without food or water restrictions.
