U.S. consumer prices rose 0.1% in July, bringing the year-over-year inflation rate to 3.4%, matching economists' expectations. The Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the index for shelter accounted for roughly two-thirds of the monthly increase, while energy prices fell 1.5%. Core CPI, excluding food and energy, increased 0.2% month-over-month and 2.5% year-over-year, also in line with forecasts.
