Russia's defense ministry claimed to have shot down 822 drones, while the mayor of Moscow stated 600 were flying towards the capital's region, with 201 destroyed. The governor of Moscow region described the assault as 'one of the most massive drone attacks in recent memory.'
In the southwestern Rostov region, five people were killed across three towns that came under attack, according to local Governor Yury Slyusar. Separately, one person died in the Moscow region when a drone struck a private home, with other reports indicating at least three people were killed and about a dozen injured in the Moscow area. A warehouse belonging to the Russian Wildberries distribution company was set on fire in Podolsk, south of Moscow.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy stated that these attacks were a direct response to Russia's ongoing drone and missile launches against Ukrainian cities, asserting that Kyiv's strikes are 'entirely justified.' He highlighted that Russia had launched over 1,550 attack drones, nearly 1,560 guided aerial bombs, and 62 missiles targeting Ukraine in the preceding week. Meanwhile, a Spanish F-18 jet, part of a NATO patrol mission, shot down a drone believed to be Russian that had crossed into Romanian airspace.
Russian attacks on Ukraine also resulted in casualties, with two people killed in the Sumy border region and three others around the country. A ballistic missile attack on Kyiv shortly before 3am injured six and caused several fires, including at the Petrovka book market.
