Key facts
- U.K. to resupply Ukraine with more Storm Shadow missiles.
- Missiles will enable strikes up to 250 kilometers inside Russia.
- Decision made during a meeting between Zelensky and UK PM Andy Burnham on Oct. 14.
The U.K. will provide Ukraine with additional long-range Storm Shadow missiles, enabling strikes deep within Russian territory, according to a Bloomberg report. The agreement was reportedly reached during a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and U.K. Prime Minister Andy Burnham in London on Oct. 14. This move comes as European nations increase their support for Ukraine amid ongoing Russian attacks on energy and civilian infrastructure, particularly after U.S. President Donald Trump lifted sanctions on Russian oil sales. The U.K. views the use of these missiles by Ukraine against Russian military targets as a defensive measure. The new shipment will allow Ukrainian forces to strike targets up to 250 kilometers inside Russia and may complement Ukraine's domestically produced FP-7 missiles. Zelensky indicated that operations against Russian oil refineries would continue, despite Moscow's alleged disregard for a unilateral energy ceasefire proposed by Trump. Ukraine has been using Storm Shadow missiles since 2023 and began targeting sites deep in Russia in 2024. Russian authorities previously stated that these missiles were used in a strike on Donetsk army command posts on Aug. 26, which allegedly resulted in a high number of Russian officer casualties.
