Uber Freight is investigating a cyber incident after the hacking group Helix claimed to have accessed and posted nearly one million files. A spokesperson for Uber Freight confirmed the incident involved unauthorized access to a portion of its systems and repositories, stating that it was identified, contained, and remediated, with federal law enforcement promptly engaged. The company emphasized that business operations continue normally without disruption and that its systems remain secure and fully operational. Helix is known for targeting companies and exfiltrating large amounts of data from cloud environments, threatening to publish it if ransom demands are not met. Some files seen by TechCrunch appeared to show email correspondence between Uber Freight and customers, dated around mid-June. Google identified the Helix group as part of a wider collective, UNC6671, which relies on social engineering tactics like voice phishing and has reportedly made at least $10.6 million in ransom payments between January and May this year.
