Singapore's economy expanded by 5.4% year-on-year in the third quarter of 2026, surpassing the 5.1% consensus estimate from economists. This growth was primarily fueled by sustained demand related to artificial intelligence, which significantly boosted the city-state's manufacturing sector.
The manufacturing sector saw a year-on-year increase of 7.5% in the three months to September, a moderation from the 12.9% expansion recorded in the second quarter. According to the Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry (METI), growth in this sector was supported by output increases in electronics, precision engineering, transport engineering, and general manufacturing clusters, which offset declines in the chemicals and biomedical manufacturing clusters.
The construction sector demonstrated robust growth, expanding by 8.8% year-on-year, an acceleration from the 6.1% growth in the previous quarter, driven by increased activity in both public and private sectors. The overall services sector maintained its pace, growing 5.2% year-on-year, consistent with the second quarter, with wholesale trade and transportation and storage leading the expansion.
