Samsung Electronics Co. Chairman Lee Jae-yong is slated to receive shares valued at 2.6 trillion won ($1.94 billion) from his mother, Hong Ra-hee, the company announced Tuesday. The donation, scheduled for November 12, involves approximately 11.16 million shares.
Following the share transfer, Lee Jae-yong's ownership stake in the tech giant will increase to 1.75% from his current 1.58%. This move comes about a month after Hong Ra-hee sold a 0.11% stake, worth 1.9 trillion won, to her son. That earlier transaction was part of a financial strategy to cover inheritance taxes stemming from the 2020 death of her husband and former Samsung Chairman, Lee Kun-hee.
