Ripple has released version 3.3.0 of its XRP Ledger (XRPL) software, introducing six proposed amendments aimed at enhancing privacy, settlement efficiency, and the tokenization of real-world assets (RWAs). A key feature is 'Confidential Transfers,' which would allow institutions to encrypt the balances and payment amounts of certain tokenized assets while keeping account and token types visible. This upgrade is designed to attract institutional users to the growing RWA market on XRPL, which currently holds approximately $1.38 billion in issued assets.
Other amendments include tools for batching up to eight transactions, allowing one account to sponsor another's transaction fees, and enabling permission delegation for limited authority without full control. These features are part of Ripple's broader strategy to expand XRPL's capabilities for financial applications and institutional use cases. The upgrade also includes performance improvements, such as a 10% to 15% reduction in memory usage.
For these amendments to go live on the mainnet, they must receive at least 80% support from XRPL validators, maintained continuously for two weeks. The 'Confidential Transfers' feature, in particular, will need to gain adoption from institutions already issuing assets on the ledger.
