An attacker armed with two knives wounded a policeman guarding the Israeli embassy in Belgrade overnight before being shot dead by the officer, Serbia's outgoing interior minister said on Wednesday. The assailant, whose identity is undetermined but is suspected to be from Šabac, rushed at the officer shouting 'Allahu Akbar' and attacked him with the knives. The officer sustained a light head wound. In response, Serbia's security threat level was raised to red, the highest, with an increased police presence at key locations. This is the second such incident at the embassy in two years; in June 2024, an assailant shot a Serbian police officer with a crossbow.
