A 21-year-old Palestinian prisoner, Mutaz al-Atrash, died on Wednesday in Israel's Ofer detention facility, according to Wafa news agency. His family stated he had no known illnesses prior to his death and had been held under administrative detention for over 11 months. A released detainee corroborated that al-Atrash was well.
In a separate incident on Wednesday evening, Israeli forces raided the city of Al-Bireh in the occupied West Bank, firing live ammunition and injuring a young Palestinian man. Security sources cited by Wafa reported that Israeli special forces also entered the Balata refugee camp near Nablus, raiding a shop and opening fire, hitting one young man with live ammunition before detaining him and another Palestinian.
According to Addameer, there are currently 9,400 Palestinian political prisoners in Israeli prisons, including 3,244 held under administrative detention, a policy allowing detention without charge or trial for renewable periods.
