Palantir and the Mayor of London's office, known as MOPAC, have agreed to settle a legal battle over a £50 million contract for an AI and data analysis service for the Metropolitan Police. The dispute arose in June when MOPAC blocked the contract, prompting Palantir to file a claim in the High Court.
Palantir alleged that the contract was unlawfully blocked due to its values and ethics, citing media reports. MOPAC's lawyers had previously accused Palantir and the Met Police of coordinating to fix the procurement process.
Both parties announced on Wednesday they would withdraw their allegations without admitting any liability, with each side bearing its own legal costs. In an agreed statement, MOPAC clarified that its decision was not based on Palantir's values or ethics, but rather on its statutory role in examining spend proposals against legal tests, procurement guidance, governance, affordability, and value for money. MOPAC acknowledged that media reporting prior to the decision might have created an incorrect impression that the company's values were a factor.
The settlement states that MOPAC is working with the Metropolitan Police Service to re-run a competitive procurement for the service, and Palantir will be eligible to bid.
