Optimal Blue announced on Thursday the integration of VantageScore 4.0 into its comprehensive capital markets platform. This integration allows mortgage lenders to incorporate the new credit scoring model directly into their existing workflows for product, pricing, eligibility, mortgage servicing rights (MSR) valuation, hedging, and trading.
VantageScore 4.0 is a key component of the Federal Housing Finance Agency's (FHFA) directive for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to transition away from legacy FICO models. The new model utilizes approximately 400% more data than older scores and aims to expand credit access by scoring an additional 33 million consumers. This move is intended to modernize credit risk assessment and better reflect current consumer behavior.
For capital markets and secondary marketing teams, the integration streamlines processes by embedding VantageScore 4.0 directly into lock desk, pricing, and trading operations, rather than requiring separate procedures. VantageScore reported a 55% increase in its model usage in 2024, with over 3,700 institutions, including nine of the top 10 U.S. banks, utilizing its scores and digital tools.
Optimal Blue positions this integration as part of its strategy to enhance connectivity between primary and secondary mortgage markets through advanced pricing, analytics, and automation. By embedding VantageScore 4.0, the company aims to reduce the operational burden on lenders as they navigate the multiyear transition to new credit scoring frameworks mandated by the FHFA and GSEs.
