One person died and several others were injured in a rollercoaster incident at Six Flags Over Georgia on Monday afternoon. The incident occurred on the Goliath rollercoaster. Witnesses reported a man fell from the ride, with one account suggesting he landed on the roof of a haunted house attraction. The Cobb County Police Department is investigating the fatality, which occurred approximately 15 miles from Atlanta.
Six Flags Entertainment Corp. said it would temporarily close 10 rides at its theme parks, including the Goliath ride, amid a string of incidents at its facilities. "Out of an abundance of caution, we have temporarily closed similar attractions across our parks," the company said in a statement. "The safety of our guests and team members is our highest priority."
The Goliath rollercoaster, which opened in 2006, reaches an elevation of 200 feet and speeds of up to 70 mph. The incident comes weeks after Six Flags announced the closure of its X2 roller coaster in California due to numerous reports of brain injuries.
