Key facts
- DOJ found Ohio State's medical school discriminated against white and Asian applicants.
- The university disputes the findings and states it complies with admissions laws.
- The DOJ seeks a voluntary resolution agreement and may file suit if efforts fail.
Ohio State University on Wednesday stated it disagrees with the US Department of Justice's findings that its medical school discriminated against white and Asian applicants in favor of Black and Hispanic students. The DOJ's probe indicated that the school's admissions practices for the 2023, 2024, and 2025 incoming classes showed discriminatory intent through its diversity commitments. The university asserted that it does not consider race or ethnicity in admissions and is in full compliance with Supreme Court rulings and all federal and state laws. The DOJ is seeking a voluntary resolution agreement and indicated it would file a lawsuit if these efforts are unsuccessful. The Supreme Court previously rejected race-conscious admissions programs in 2023.
