Norway proposes ban on trade with Israeli settlements

Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide stated that the settlements contribute to displacement, violence, and the destruction of Palestinian communities, making a peaceful solution impossible. The proposed legislation would prohibit Norwegian entities from profiting from or supporting these settlements, including bans on buying property and providing services related to construction or real estate transactions. Violations would be punishable.

The move aligns with previous sanctions imposed by Norway and other countries against violent Israeli settlers. Both the UN Security Council and the International Court of Justice have declared Israeli settlements illegal, a stance Israel disputes.
