A Wichita woman, Katheryn Pinkston, has reported being scammed out of $158 by a Lyft driver who falsely accused her of vomiting in his car. Pinkston stated that her ride from the airport was uneventful and that she did not cause any mess. Despite her claims, the driver charged her card an unauthorized fee shortly after dropping her off.
When Pinkston requested evidence from Lyft, she discovered that the photos provided to justify the cleaning fee were allegedly sourced from social media sites like Reddit and Pinterest. She expressed concern about the financial impact of the charge, particularly as she is a caretaker and needs to pay rent and utilities soon.
This incident appears to be part of a larger scam affecting dozens of people across the country. The Better Business Bureau advises consumers to take photos of rideshare vehicles and be aware of their rights and the dispute resolution processes offered by ride-sharing companies. Lyft has responded to the report, stating that they take damage complaints seriously and are working with Pinkston to offer support.
