President Lee Jae Myung's approval rating has fallen for the third consecutive week, reaching 51 percent, according to a poll by Gallup Korea. The survey, conducted from Tuesday to Thursday among 1,003 adults, indicated a 1 percentage point decrease from the previous week. Disapproval of Lee's performance rose to 38 percent.
Diplomacy was the most frequently cited reason for positive evaluations (17 percent), followed by the economy and people's livelihoods (15 percent). Conversely, real estate policies were the primary driver of negative sentiment, cited by 22 percent of respondents, marking the first time these policies topped the list since Lee took office. Economic concerns, including currency weakness, were cited by 10 percent.
Lee recently stated there is broad consensus on increasing property holding taxes to stabilize housing prices. In the same poll, the ruling Democratic Party saw its approval rating climb 4 percentage points to 44 percent, while the main opposition People Power Party dropped 3 percentage points to 23 percent. The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1 percentage points at a 95 percent confidence level.
