Labour's Bev Craig has won the Greater Manchester mayoral by-election, succeeding Andy Burnham. Craig secured 66% of the vote after second preferences were counted, defeating Reform UK's Sian Astley. The vote was triggered after Burnham resigned to return to Westminster and subsequently became prime minister. Turnout for the special election was 25% of the more than two million eligible voters. Bev Craig previously led Manchester City Council. The supplementary vote system, which allows voters to pick a first and second-preference candidate, was used to determine the winner.
