At least one person was killed and more than 20 others injured in overnight Russian attacks on Ukraine’s capital Kyiv, authorities said on Wednesday, October 14, 2026. The strikes targeted a key power plant, the Darnytska CHP-4, which supplies the capital with heating and electricity, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy.
A large fire broke out in a residential building after it came under Russian shelling. Zelenskyy noted that the plant was hit by a ballistic missile and accused Moscow of deliberately targeting energy sites.
The attack occurred days after US President Donald Trump announced an "energy ceasefire" between Russia and Ukraine, which would halt attacks on energy targets. Despite this, Kremlin's nightly attacks have continued to target energy sites, according to Zelenskyy.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko wrote on Telegram that energy facilities in Kyiv and the surrounding region had come under a "massive ballistic missile strike," leading to power disruptions in the capital. Zelenskyy accused Moscow of showing "ostentatious disrespect toward the United States" by carrying out the attack.
Meanwhile, Russia claimed it had shot down 900 Ukrainian drones overnight, including 180 near Moscow. Zelenskyy has previously stated that Ukraine is prepared to abide by Trump’s truce if Russia reciprocates.
