JPMorgan Chase has announced plans to deploy more than $750 billion into housing by 2035 as part of its American Dream Initiative. This commitment, a nearly 40% increase in housing-related capital compared to the previous decade, aims to boost housing supply and homeownership across the U.S. The initiative includes financing for 1 million affordable housing units and assistance for 500,000 homebuyers, with a specific focus on supporting 200,000 first-time buyers. The bank also plans to hire 850 new home lending advisers and introduce new digital tools. JPMorgan will explore new collateral types, such as modular homes, and consider down payment assistance programs. Additionally, the bank intends to harmonize standards among housing finance institutions and advocate for policy reforms, including local zoning and permitting changes, to unlock more housing supply and reduce costs. JPMorgan Chase will also chair the U.S. Chamber of Commerce’s newly formed Housing Advisory Council. Michelle Herrick, head of commercial real estate, emphasized the importance of an affordable housing market for economic growth, while Sean Grzebin, CEO of Chase Home Lending, highlighted homeownership's role in wealth-building and community stability.
