The Israeli military announced on Wednesday that troops would participate in a military exercise in the northern occupied West Bank on Thursday. The exercise is scheduled to take place in the Ephraim and Menashe Brigade areas, which include cities and villages such as Jenin, Tuba, and Tulkarem, from morning until noon.
The military stated that there would be noticeable movement of security forces during the exercise but assured there was no cause for concern regarding a security incident. This announcement comes amid heightened tensions and recent violence in the region.
Separately, the Israeli military had begun preparations for a large-scale operation in the occupied West Bank following clashes that resulted in the deaths of four Palestinians and two Israeli soldiers. The clashes reportedly occurred when a group of settlers entered an area restricted to Israeli civilians for an unauthorized hike, leading to confrontations with residents of the nearby Palestinian village of Tell. The Palestinian Ministry of Health stated that the four Palestinians killed were shot by Israeli soldiers.
In response to the killings, Far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich called for the demolition of Palestinian villages in the area. The United Nations has urged for immediate action to end the escalating violence in the West Bank, citing "unabated" Israeli settler attacks against Palestinian communities.
