Israel and Morocco have agreed to upgrade their diplomatic relations, including the establishment of embassies and the appointment of ambassadors in both countries. The announcement was made via the official Israeli government account on X and was confirmed during a trilateral diplomatic summit in New York on Wednesday, September 16, 2026. The summit included Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita, and US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz.
Morocco was one of four Arab nations, alongside the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, and Sudan, to normalize relations with Israel in 2020 under U.S.-brokered agreements known as the Abraham Accords.
Further agreements on investment protection and the prevention of double taxation are expected to be completed by the end of 2026 to facilitate reciprocal investment and strengthen economic ties. Both countries also plan to hold reciprocal high-level visits in the coming months.
