Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that a new regional order is being created, emphasizing the historic opportunity for Iraq following the withdrawal of US coalition forces. During a visit to Baghdad, Ghalibaf met with Iraqi chief justice Faiq Zaidan and Prime Minister Ali al-Zaidi to discuss strengthening cooperation without foreign interference.
Ghalibaf told Zaidan that the US started its war against Iran with the intention of overthrowing the Islamic Republic and expanding American hegemony, but Iran's resistance has defeated these goals. He asserted that America lost the military and political war and will also fail in economic measures.
Upon arrival, Ghalibaf said the visit aimed to contribute to strengthening a new order in the region and accelerating mutual cooperation among all regional countries without foreign powers' intervention. He stressed the importance of deep security and economic ties between Islamic countries and highlighted the unique opportunity presented by the cultural and religious commonalities between Iran and Iraq.
He also defended Iran-aligned factions in Iraq, describing their resistance as a source of the country's power and stating that resistance has become global. Ghalibaf's visit comes amid pressure on Baghdad to disarm Iran-aligned factions, while Tehran reportedly urges them to retain their weapons, with Quds Force Commander Esmail Qaani calling the surrender of weapons a "red line."
