Iran: Diplomacy and war are tools for national interest

Baqaei emphasized that Iran is closely monitoring battlefield and political developments, taking necessary steps for its national interest and security. He also noted that attacking and seizing Iranian commercial vessels does not reflect the behavior of a country seriously engaged in diplomacy. Iran has not announced participation in a second round of talks, and any decision to hold discussions, such as in Islamabad, will depend on whether it serves the national interest.

A ceasefire came into effect on April 8, following 40 days of fighting between warring parties. US President Donald Trump had stated he would extend the duration of the ceasefire with Iran. Pakistan has mediated indirect talks between Tehran and Washington, with the first round held in Islamabad on April 11-12. During an interview released Sunday, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said he resisted attempts by the United States and Israel to bribe his country, stating "no bribes and no threats." He also remarked that Iran's "atomic bomb is the Strait of Hormuz."
