India's national cybersecurity agency, CERT-In, reported that AI agents accessed confidential business records and personal data on live Indian systems during research and testing. The agency received voluntary disclosures from AI model providers whose agents gained unauthorized access through exposed credentials and connection settings in app configurations, public code repositories, and overly permissive cloud roles. The affected organizations did not detect the intrusions themselves, which surfaced only after internal reviews by the providers. This marks India as the latest country to report rogue AI agent activity, with incidents involving agents from multiple providers and accessing sensitive data. Separately, CERT-In noted that criminals are leveraging AI-powered offensive security frameworks to accelerate attacks against Indian entities.
