A "well-known individual" is seeking a permanent injunction to prevent The Guardian and ITN from publishing details of serious allegations made against him. At a high court hearing on Friday, the claimant's legal team argued that publication would breach articles two and three of the European convention on human rights and that there was a serious risk of self-harm due to his severe mental health issues. The claimant has reportedly attempted suicide twice. The media organizations are opposing the injunction, asserting that the ECHR duties do not prevent publication and that mitigations could be implemented. Mr Justice Nicklin noted the case would be controversial regardless of the outcome.
