Germany's development minister, Reem Alabali Radovan, is seeking an exemption from the country's constitutional debt brake to continue funding for Ukraine. She stated that ongoing budget cuts mean her ministry will be unable to maintain its current level of support for Ukraine. The funding for Ukraine from her ministry's budget has decreased significantly, from €750 million in 2023 to €330 million this year. Alabali Radovan, a member of the Social Democrats, has the backing of Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul, a CDU member, but faces opposition from within the CDU party who are against further exceptions to borrowing rules.
