A 19-year-old man, Camron Harris, has been arrested in connection with a shooting that injured five people outside Virginia State University dorms on Saturday. Harris, who is not a student at the university, was discovered hiding in a dormitory closet at 4 p.m. after more than 14 hours. The shooting occurred around 1:30 a.m. on Saturday. Police transported Harris to the Chesterfield county jail, where he faces four counts each of malicious wounding and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony. He is being held without bond, and additional charges may be filed. Officers found five individuals with gunshot wounds upon arrival; one victim is in critical condition, while the other four sustained non-life-threatening injuries. At least one of the victims is a student. The university had initially stated that multiple suspects were involved and placed the campus on lockdown, which was later lifted. Authorities do not believe there is an ongoing threat to the school community. Virginia State University is a public university with approximately 5,700 students.
